Do you want to see Our HEroes come to life in your school?
A long-term piece of support for your staff and students
Think about your last school event. How many of the parents in the room were mums?
Even today, mums are often seen as the ones who handle a child’s education. Yet when schools build positive relationships with dads and male carers, children benefit: in their engagement, behaviour, confidence and future ambitions.
Ofsted is clear that education works best when schools and families work together. Our HEroes is a simple, practical way to reach the families you may hear from least.
Why we started Our HEroes
Both of our project leads grew up with dads on the edge of school life: one because his dad was often far away, the other because his dad was too stretched to get involved. We know what children miss when that happens, and we want to change it.
How it works
- Six sessions a year, one every half term
- 30-minute breakfast sessions before the school day
- Fun, informal activities for dads and children to do together, designed and led by our team
- Breakfast provided by us, subject to numbers and dietary requirements
- Open to all male carers: dads, grandads, stepdads, uncles
Your staff don’t need to plan or run anything. We just need a room and your help inviting families.
What your school gets
Children get time with their dad, in school, doing something together. Dads get a relaxed way in, and the chance to meet other men in the same position.
The benefits often go further. Schools we’ve worked with now have groups of dads helping at summer fetes and fairs, giving their time at other events, and sponsoring school projects.
What schools say
“As a teacher, supporting this project was a wonderful experience. It was fantastic to see our male caregivers actively engaging with their children through fun and meaningful activities which, I am sure, created lasting memories for the children. Alongside this, the relaxed atmosphere encouraged meaningful conversations and strong connections between the men in the room. It was a powerful combination of play, support and community.”

Safeguarding
Every member of our team is DBS checked. We work with your Designated Safeguarding Lead before each session to make sure everyone attending is suitable.
Cost
£1,200 including VAT for the full year. That covers all six sessions (pro-rata if joining the project through the year), with breakfast included, subject to numbers. Our HEroes fits the parental-engagement approaches the EEF and DfE recommend for Pupil Premium spending.
Next step
We work mainly with schools in Herefordshire, where we’re based. If you’re a headteacher, governor or trustee and would like to find out more, get in touch for an informal chat.
